Awash National Park
Duration; 2 days
Duration: Overnight

You leave Addis Ababa after breakfast and pass through Debre Zeit, Mojo and Nazret. You then head northeast on the major road that parallels the course of the Awash River until you arrive at the turnoff to the Awash National Park headquarters, 210 km east of Addis Ababa. Near the headquarters are the thundering Awash Falls and not far away are shady campsites along the river.
This 827-square-kilometre park has two distinct sections. In the afternoon you will tour the llala Sala Plain where you can observe herds of Oryx, hartebeest and families of ostrich, too. Closer to the river you will see numerous waterbuck and the rarer kudu, groups of baboons, families of warthogs and many other species of animals, as well as innumerable species of birds. You then go to the campsite where you find your camp has been prepared for you.
The next morning, after breakfast, you cross the road to tour the other section of the park, the Fantalle Plain, with its many species of wild animals and birds. You will relax at the crystal-clear, pristine ‘Palm Beach’ hot springs pool before driving back to Addis Ababa that afternoon.
