1.1. TRINITY CATHEDRAL
You then drive up the hill, past the Old Palace (the Gibbi) to the Trinity Cathedral. This majestic church was constructed in 1941. Inside you will see paintings on traditional religious themes and also an important historic mural.
1.2. THE NATIONAL MUSEUM
The National Museum is farther along the same road, within the area of the University of Addis Ababa. This museum houses one of the most important relics in the world: the 3.5 million-year-old skeleton of ‘Lucy’, our oldest known human ancestor. Alongside its renowned archeological exhibits, the museum also displays a fascinating collection of parchment manuscripts, antique jewelry, ceremonial robes and other priceless objects. In the garden outside the museum is a delightful buna beit, a coffee house, built in the style of a large tukul, the traditional thatched hut, where you can refresh yourself with a cup of excellent Ethiopian coffee.
1.3 ETHNO-GRAPHIC MUSEUM
Found inside Haile Selassie’s former palace, and surrounded by the beautiful gardens and fountains of the university’s main campus, is the enthralling Ethnological Museum. Even if you’re not a museum fan, this one is worth a bit of your time – it’s easily one of the finest museums in Africa, showing the full sweep of Ethiopia’s cultural and social history across two floors
1.4 MERKATO
Is the open market in Africa. Peoples use to say by oral tradition “everything is avavliable to purchase in merkato except the human soul” Merkato with its shopping dynamism, merchants bring their commodities and expose to the buyers on the open air with old way of marketing tradition. Price bargaining is working in Ethiopia very well these days.
1.5 ENTOTO MOUNTAIN
Drive up to the hill from 2500m to nearly 3000m to reach Entoto mountain. The area is covered by thick eucalyptus tree and some indigenous plants such as hygienia Abisinica, juniper trees. The mount offers a magnificent view to Addis Ababa city from the top. On the hill, there is well reserved attraction which was the palace of Minilk II from the end of 19th century. St Mary church and museum is in the same compound to be visited.
